Daniel A. Neff, partner and co-chairman at Wachtell Lipton Rosen & Katz, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in corporate law.
Mr. Neff has practiced corporate law with a focus on mergers and acquisitions for more than 40 years. He is currently a partner in the corporate department of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where he also serves as co-chair of the executive committee. Mr. Neff is best-known for his work negotiating the landmark 2010 AirGas takeover defense case and the company’s later $10 billion international acquisition deal, both seminal cases that have become a part of the standard law and business school curricula. With a portfolio of clients including Verizon, Rohm Hass, and Chevron, Mr. Neff is widely recognized as a major player in modern acquisition law and has been named American Lawyer Magazine’s Dealmaker of the Year in 2001, 2012, and 2015.
His initial excitement for the law was sparked by a class about law and culture that he took as a student at Brown University. After graduating magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974, Mr. Neff began coursework at Columbia University, serving as notes and comments editor of the Columbia Law Review before earning his Juris Doctor in 1977. Dedicated to promoting and protecting the interests of the broader community, Mr. Neff is a longtime member of the board of the YMCA of Greater New York and remains active in the American Bar Association and the American Bar Foundation. He is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and in 2008, he was presented with the American Jewish Committee’s highest honor, the Judge Learned Hand Award, in recognition of his commitment to the dignity and integrity of the legal profession.
