John T. Moran, Owner of The Moran Law Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in labor and employment law.
Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English language and literature, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1965, Mr. Moran went on to attain a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1968, during which he worked for U.S. Congressman Donald Rumsfeld and gained early insight to Washington politics. He went on to serve Illinois and the Cook County Public Defender’s Office as chief of the Appeals Division from 1970 to 1982 and as general counsel from 1984 to 1986 before joining Frank & Flaherty as chief litigation attorney in 1982. Simultaneously, Mr. Moran had offered his expertise as a consultant to the American Bar Association in Chicago through 1983.
Since the early 1990s, Mr. Moran has served as the founder of the Law Offices of John Thomas Moran and John T. Moran & Associates, now known as The Moran Law Group. Specializing in labor and employment law, he has been honored with an AV-Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell. Earlier in his career, he was a Ford Foundation Fellow of the International Common Law Colloquium in London in 1976 and a National Endowment of the Humanities Grantee at Harvard Law School in 1977. Mr. Moran attributes his success to perseverance and preparation, as well as the influence of Professor Edward Bennett Williams and James J. Dorothy.
Mr. Moran is proud to have always strived to see fairness and simple justice in the legal system, which he notes is a constant battle. Reflecting on his career this far, he is particularly fond of his time as an investigator for the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence, studying the causes and consequences of the events of the Democratic National Convention in 1968. Additionally, for approximately six months in 1975, Mr. Moran was acting director of the Defender Division of the National Legal Aid & Defender Association. He also sat on the board of directors of Lawyers for the Creative Arts from 1971 to 1997.
To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Moran maintains membership with the Illinois State Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association, Appellate Lawyers Association and National Legal Aid and Defenders Association. He is also a member of the American Society for International Law, Illinois Public Lawyers Association, Illinois Association of Criminal Defenders Council and National Employment Lawyers Association. As a testament to his legacy, Mr. Moran can also be found in editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
