Robert D. Herpst, Of Counsel at Borteck & Czapek PC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
Having accrued nearly five decades of inimitable expertise in his chosen field, Mr. Herpst applies his knowledge and experience as a mergers and acquisitions and corporate attorney for the benefit of clients of Borteck & Czapek, a boutique law firm that specializes in the practice areas of estate planning, trust litigation, and business planning. Now semi-retired, he was previously chairperson of the board of directors and a managing director for International Crystal Laboratories, an optical materials and devices company, in Garfield, New Jersey, between 1988 and 2016, where he had served as the president from 1982 until 1988. Mr. Herpst also served as corporate counsel, assistant secretary, and associate general counsel for the BOC Group Inc. in Montvale, New Jersey where he closed scores of business acquisitions and international transactions during his tenure between 1977 and 1988.
Mr. Herpst commenced his professional career as an associate corporate attorney at Pitney, Hardin & Kipp in Morristown, New Jersey, between 1972 and 1977. Outside of his work in the legal field, he also sat as a member of the board of supervisors for Solaris Optics SA from 2006 until 2011. Additionally, Mr. Herpst has distinguished himself as an inventor and holder of several patents, including for laser accessories, two laboratory presses, a radiation detection device, and two thin filmmakers.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Herpst sought a formal education at New York University, where he was in the School of Commerce honors program and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1969. Following this accomplishment, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Rutgers University in 1972, where he was an editor of Rutgers Law Review, after which he was admitted to practice law in the state of New Jersey, as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States. To commemorate his standout success, Mr. Herpst was bestowed with the Cornelius W. Wickersham Award for Constitutional Law in 1972.
