Edwin Earl McAmis, LLB, a retired lawyer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of legal service.
Specializing in commercial securities litigation, Mr. McAmis enjoyed more than three decades in legal service until his retirement in 1993. Concluding his career as a special pro bono partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP, where he had previously served as a partner from 1977 until 1990, he also worked on several committees on professional ethics and mergers and acquisitions for the federal courts of the City of New York between 1987 and 1990. Moreover, Mr. McAmis found success as a partner and associate with several law firms, including Lovejoy, Wasson, Lundgren & Ashton, Regan Goldfarb Powell & Quinn, and Webster, Sheffield & Chrystie.
Adjacent to his responsibilities in the field, Mr. McAmis maintained involvement as an adjunct professor at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law from 1985 until 1990. Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, he volunteered as an organizer for the YES Institute, a nonprofit anti-suicide organization, between 1996 and 1998. Furthermore, Mr. McAmis sat on the board of directors of Lambda Legal, the Aston Magna Music Festival, and the Community Research Initiative of New York.
Mr. McAmis’ exemplary performance in the field was born of his academic journey, during which time he earned a Bachelor of Arts in politics and history, magna cum laude, from Harvard College in 1956 and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1959. He was subsequently sworn in to practice law before the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. Court of Appeals for both the Second and Third Circuit, as well as the District of Columbia Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. To commemorate the consistency of his accomplishments, Mr. McAmis maintained a Martindale-Hubbell AV preeminent rating throughout his legal career.
