Stephen A. Sheller, Founding Partner at Sheller PC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in personal injury and other matters of law.
Since 1978, Mr. Sheller has served as the founding partner of Sheller PC, in Philadelphia, where he focuses his attention on personal injury law, as well as consumer class action suits, defective drug and medical devices, product liability and complex commercial litigation. At the inception of his legal career in the late 1960s, he notably defended the Black Panthers organization and protected the civil rights of African American female workers regarding equal pay for equal work, thus establishing his eminence in the field. Additionally, he is renowned for reaching an $8 billion verdict against Janssen Pharmaceuticals, which is believed to be the largest plaintiff’s verdict in the United States in 2019. Taking on numerous cases over his extensive career, Mr. Sheller first received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania in 1960 before receiving a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1963. He was subsequently admitted to practice law in all the state and federal courts of Pennsylvania and New York State, as well as in Washington, D.C.
In addition to his legal work, Mr. Sheller co-founded the Sheller Family Foundation alongside his wife, Sandra, through which they address economic and social disparities throughout the United States. Additionally, he and his wife established the Stephen and Sandra Sheller 11th Street Family Health Services Center of Drexel University, which was recognized by the National Academy of Medicine in 2016. Furthermore, he developed the Stephen and Sandra Sheller Center for Social Justice at Temple University Beasley School of Law, among other prestigious initiatives.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Sheller received the 2014 Russell H. Conwell Award from Temple University and the 2017 Heroes of Liberty Award from the National Liberty Museum, among myriad other accolades. He and his wife also received the Secretary’s Award for Public-Philanthropic Partnerships from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Mr. Sheller himself has earned two honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees from Temple University and Drexel University. He has been honored as a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer since 2009, named to America’s Top 100 High Stakes Litigators in 2020 and listed among Best of the Bar in 2020.
