Brian D. Huber, Esq., partner at Gunderson Dettmer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in fund management.
Mr. Huber is a business lawyer and advisor specializing in venture capital and fund management, including issues relating to tax reform, secondary purchases, and organizational structure. His career began in 2003 after graduating with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in history and economics from the College of the Holy Cross. Coupled with his natural intellectual curiosity, Mr. Huber’s background in economics was a perfect springboard to law school, and he completed his Juris Doctor with an emphasis in business law and regulation at Cornell University Law School in 2008. While studying law, Mr. Huber developed an interest in investment and economic regulation, describing it as “not something he expected to enjoy as much as he did,” and adjusted his professional direction to match.
In 2008, Mr. Huber joined Proskauer Rose, an international firm headquartered in New York. He continued to rise through the firm, becoming senior counsel in 2017 and a partner of the firm the following year. He has developed a reputation for expertise in advising fund managers and navigating complex legal issues in fund formation both in the United States and globally and enjoys working with clients to find unexpected solutions to challenges that may initially seem thorny. In 2019, Mr. Huber left Proskauer Rose to become a partner at the Boston office of Gunderson Dettmer, where he continues to concentrate his practice on taxes and fund representation.
Mr. Huber attributes much of his success to the influence of his professional and academic mentors, without whose guidance his dedication and hard work would not have taken him as far. Within five years, he hopes to be at the helm of a growing practice in Boston and to have the opportunity to pass along the same opportunities to his early-career associates. In addition to his work with Gunderson Dettmer, Mr. Huber is a member of the American Bar Association Business Law Section private equity and venture capital committee and the past co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association. In recognition of his professional excellence, he has been named one of s Rising Stars each year since 2015, included in both the Legal 500 United States and Chambers USA’s Tax lists, and was named the National LGBT Bar Association’s 2016 Best LGBT Lawyer Under 40. Mr. Huber is dedicated to providing pro bono counsel to individuals and organizations in need, and he was presented with Immigration Equality’s 2019 Safe Haven Award for Excellence in Pro Bono Representation in acknowledgment of his efforts.
