Howard S. Hogan, Partner at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in intellectual property litigation.
Upon receiving a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service, magna cum laude, from Georgetown University in 1994, Mr. Hogan went on to attain a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from New York University in 1999. Inspired to take on the legal realm after visiting Abraham Lincoln’s law office in Springfield, Illinois, he gained initial experience as a law clerk to the Honorable Naomi Reice Buchwald of the U.S. District Court for the South District of New York in 1999 and 2000. From there, Mr. Hogan served as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton, LLP in New York City from 2000 to 2004 and at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP in Washington, D.C. until 2010 at which he was appointed partner.
Continuing to serve Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP as a partner, Mr. Hogan is also chair of the Fashion, Retail and Consumer Products group specializing in intellectual property litigation. Elected a fellow of the American Bar Foundation in 2021, he has been abundantly awarded for his legal prowess. Notably, Mr. Hogan was the recipient of the President’s Award from the Washington, D.C. Board of the Jewish National Fund in 2019, the Friend of the Year Award from the Meals on Wheels Association of America in 2008 and the Outstanding Leadership Award from AmeriCorps in 1995.
Reflecting on his illustrious career, Mr. Hogan recalls a particular highlight was a pro-bono case he took on during the COVID-19 crisis, in which he led a team who helped represent a 13-year-old immigrant girl that held in a Virginia facility where she was unnecessarily put at risk for the disease. He and his team filed a Habeas Corpus petition and a motion that caused the government to change course and release her to the custody of her family in the United States. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Hogan can also be found in the 69th edition of Who’s Who in America and the 17th through 19th editions of Who’s Who in American Law.
