Karen Hastie Williams, Retired Lawyer at Crowell & Moring LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law.

After receiving a certificate from the University of Neuchâtel in 1965, Ms. Williams went on to attain a Bachelor of Arts from Bates College in 1966 and a Master of Arts from the Fletcher School at Tufts University in 1967. Delving into a legal career, she gained initial experience as a staff assistant to the international government relations department of the Mobil Oil Corporation and to the U.S. Senate District Committee until 1970. In 1973, Ms. Williams obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Catholic University of America. Showing exceptional early prowess, she was a law clerk to Chief Judge Spottswood W. Robinson III of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall of the U.S. Supreme Court between 1973 and 1977. To attest to her legacy, Ms. Williams can also be found in editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in Corporate America, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women.

Continuing an illustrious career, Ms. Williams served as an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Kampelman from 1975 to 1977 and as chief counsel to the U.S. Senate Budget Committee until 1980. For one year, she was an administrator of the Officer of Federal Procurement Policy and the Executive Office of the President before joining Crowell & Moring LLP, where she excelled as a partner for 22 years until beginning her retirement in 2004. Presently, Ms. Williams maintains affiliation with the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Washington Bar Association, National Contract Management Association and Legal Defense Fund of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. She served as a  board member of the Chubb Corporation, Sun Trust Bank, Inc., WGL Holdings, Inc., Gannett Company and Continental Airlines. With this sentiment, Ms. Williams cited her career highlights have been serving as a board member for Continental and United Airlines, Fannie Mae and Washington Gas Holdings, Inc.

Ms. Williams passed away on July 7, 2021.
