Deryl F. Hamann, J.D., Chairman Emeritus at Spectrum Financial Services, Inc., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in estate planning.
Mr. Hamann’s prowess in the legal realm dates back to his high school years, where he initially found his passion for law. He went on to earn an Associate of Arts from Fort Dodge Junior College, now known as Iowa Central Community College, in 1953 and a Bachelor of Science in law from the University of Nebraska in 1953. In 1958, he notably obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from the University of Nebraska. Shortly thereafter, Mr. Hamann was admitted to practice law in Nebraska, as well as before the U.S. District Court for Nebraska and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
In his first professional role, Mr. Hamann was a law clerk to the U.S. District Court for Nebraska in 1958 and 1959. From there, he joined Baird, Holm LLP in Omaha, Nebraska, in which he flourished as a partner for 44 years until 2003 and as senior counsel from 2003 to 2016. In the latter role, Mr. Hamann had 90 lawyers working under him by the time of his retirement. Since 2017, he has offered his expertise as chairman emeritus of Spectrum Financial Services, Inc.
Alongside his primary positions, Mr. Hamann served as a past board chair of Midland University and Bellevue University. Citing these posts as the highlights of his career, he was highly regarded for represented people in financial services in banking, estate planning and tax planning. Mr. Hamann is also a past president of the Omaha Estate Planning Council, past board chairman of the Greater Western Bank Corporation, Inc. and on the chairman advisory committee appointed by the Supreme Court of Nebraska.
To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Hamann maintains affiliation with the Nebraska Bar State Foundation and the Nebraska Association of Bank Attorneys, of which he served as president to both in the 1980s. He credits much of his success to his mentor, Judge Robert Van Belt of the U.S. District Court in Lincoln, Nebraska. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Hamann is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest and Who’s Who in the World.
