Sandra Burns, PhD, JD, Lawyer and Educator, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in education law.

Holding 50 years of eminent experience, Dr. Burns commenced her career in the educational sector as a teacher for the Austin Independent School District in 1970. She went on to serve as a professor of child development, family life and home economics at Texas Women’s University and instructional development assistant at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio between 1974 and 1977. Pivoting to the legal realm, Dr. Burns was a legislative aide for Senator William T. Moore, a committee clerk for the Texas Senate and legal consultant for Colombotti & Associates in Scotland between 1978 and 1980. Until 1988, she had also served as a corporate counsel member of First International Oil and Gas Inc., contracted attorney for Humble Exploration Co. and associate at Smith & Underwood. A graduate faculty member at the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University in 2003 and 2004, Dr. Burns has served out of private practice since 1988, in which she specializes in education law.

Dr. Burns received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston in 1970 before joining the University of Texas at Austin, where she attained a Master of Arts in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1975. In 1978, she obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University. Finding great success in her career, Dr. Burns has contributed numerous articles to professional journals and been involved with various esteemed organizations. These organizations include the Daughters of the Republic Texas French Legation Museum, College of the State Bar of Texas, Daughters of the American Revolution, Dallas Bar Association and Learning Disabilities Association. To attest to her legacy, Dr. Burns is listed in editions of Who’s Who in Finance and Business, Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who of American Women and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
