Upon receiving a Bachelor of Arts in biology and environmental sciences from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1978, Ms. Bonaparte later achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1981. Shortly thereafter, she was admitted to practice in Oregon and Washington D.C., as well as before the U.S. Supreme Court. Specializing in trusts, estate planning, wills, civil litigation and complex litigation, Ms. Bonaparte has excelled as a wealth planning partner with Bonaparte & Bonaparte in Portland, Oregon since 2020. Prior to this role, she served as a wealth planning partner with Shenker & Bonaparte from 2003 to 2020 and as an associate with Hogan & Hartson from 1981 to 1988.
Finding great success in her career, Ms. Bonaparte is AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell and has been awarded for her pro bono work. Likewise, she was the recipient of the Joey Pope Volunteer of the Year Award in 2008. Ms. Bonaparte attributes her success to putting herself in the shoes of her clients, as empathy is an important trait to have in the legal profession, and to her mentor, Francis L. Casey Jr. A founding member of the Oregon Women Lawyers, she also holds membership with the Oregon State Bar Association and is a board member of Hoyt Arboretum and Friends. Likewise, she served as a member of the Virginia Law Review Editorial Board, having authored, “The Tax Code’s Differential Treatment of Lobbying Under Section 501(c)(3): A Proposed First Amendment Analysis.” In her spare time, Ms. Bonaparte enjoys dancing, traveling and hiking.
