Joy M. Feinberg, JD, Managing Partner and Lawyer at Feinberg Sharma P.C., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in divorce law.
In her youth, Ms. Feinberg witnessed her mother and stepfather deal with a contract and first amendment court case after spearheading their magazine, Consumer Guide. After passing over multiple lawyers, their final lawyer was extraordinarily creative and turned a losing case into a clear, winning case. This experience inspired Ms. Feinberg to pursue a career in law, earning a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Illinois in 1974 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the DePaul University College of Law in 1977. Ms. Feinberg began her professional career as a lawyer at a firm, 1977 to1979, and began in solo practice until 1980-1984. During that time Ms. Feinberg practiced both family law and plaintiff’s personal injury law and had 6 jury trials. In 1985, she formed Feinberg & Barry, P.C., Chicago, Illinois, excelling in family law. She subsequently served as a partner with Boyle Feinberg Sharma P.C. from 2013 to 2019 before flourishing with Feinberg Sharma, P.C. as a managing partner since 2019. Specializing in complex parenting and financial analysis in family law litigation, she has provided her professional expertise to highly reputable organizations and institutions while recognizing the struggle individuals experience prior to beginning the divorce process. Likewise, Ms. Feinberg utilizes her deep understanding of the law to clarify such complex topics as taxation, business valuation, pensions and executive compensation.
Finding much success throughout the course of her career, Ms. Feinberg was presented with the American Academy of Family Lawyers’ Samuel S. Berger Award in 2008. Honored among the Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers, she has been recognized as one of the Top 100 in the U.S. by the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. Additionally, she was celebrated as the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Fellow of the Year twice. She received the Michael Cohen Award for education in Illinois. She attributes her success to her hard work, her stubborn determination and influential mentors. In this regard, Ms. Feinberg enjoys contributing as a mentor to young, up-and-coming attorneys.
To remain aware of developments in her industry, Ms. Feinberg maintains her affiliation with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, International Academy of Family Lawyers, the family law section of the American Bar Association and the American College of Family Trial Lawyers. Ms. Feinberg was elected president of the USA Chapter of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers from 2014 to 2016. She served as chair of the family law section of the Illinois State Bar Association from 1994 to 1995. In the coming years, she hopes to see the younger women in her business thrive, grow their businesses and become inspirations to others. In her spare time, Ms. Feinberg enjoys traveling the world and collecting art.
