Brittny B. Lewton, JD, Elected District Attorney for the 13th Judicial District, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements and leadership in criminal prosecution.
Drawn to the field of law enforcement from a young age, Ms. Lewton believed that she could best utilize her skill sets in a courtroom. Upon earning a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Wyoming College of Law, her experiences in clinics and internships reaffirmed her career choice. Notably, she became appointed as the elected district attorney for the 13th Judicial District in Colorado in 2016 after having become a member since 2004. Dedicated to reprimanding people in Colorado in the prosecution of crimes committed in her jurisdiction, she handles homicides, reviews arrest warrants and search warrants, and deals with managerial and organizational needs. She is incredibly proud of her efforts in transforming the 13th Judicial District into a respectable office, offering a higher quality of product and law enforcement through trust and representation. Likewise, Ms. Lewton has recruited two exceptional African-American female attorneys as well as numerous other female attorneys.
As the first female district attorney for the 13th Judicial District, Ms. Lewton attributes her success to her sheer will to care for the honorable position. She also credits her various mentors who motivated and inspired her, including Jacqueline Bridgeman, George Brathwaithe and Tom Raines. She notes that the most rewarding aspect of her work is bringing justice for those who do not have the ability to speak, such as those who have been violently killed. In prosecution and holding people accountable, she is able to deliver fair justice and provide solace to those involved. To remain aware of developments in her industry, she maintains her affiliation with the Colorado Bar Association, the Colorado District Attorney Council and the National District Attorney Association. In the coming years, Ms. Lewton aims to seek a more balanced career and personal life, while also working closely with budding legal professionals.
