Burton A. Landy, Senior Counsel at Harper Meyer, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in international business and investment, and international arbitration.
An arbitrator and trailblazer in law for more than 65 years, Mr. Landy received a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University in 1950 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Miami in 1952. Since 2017, he has served as a senior counsel at Harper Meyer, as well as partner and chairman emeritus of the international practice group, Akerman LLP. from 1997 to 2017, specializing in international business and investment and international arbitration., Mr. Landy has served as arbitrator in commercial and investment disputes involving parties and the laws of Argentina, the Bahamas, Canada, China, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Japan, Peru, Nicaragua and Puerto Rico. In addition, he is the founding chairman of the Miami International Arbitration Society and chairman of the host committee for the International Congress and Convention Association Miami since 2011. Earlier, between 1957 and 1997, Mr. Landy was a partner at Steel Hector & Davis, Paul, Landy, Beiley & Harper and Predecessor Firm and Ammerman & Landy.
A fellow of the American Bar Foundation, Mr. Landy was appointed to the National and International Panels of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association in 2003. He is a past president of the Inter-American Bar Association and American Foreign Law Association and is an honorary member of the Bar of South Korea, various other professional affiliations. Renowned for his expertise, Mr. Landy received the Order of the Rising Sun Golden Rays with Garnet Medal from the Emperor of Japan in 2004. He was also granted the Richard L. McLaughlin Award from the Florida Economic Development Council in 1993, a Ministerial Citation from the Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1988 and Heung-in Medal from the Order of Diplomatic Service in 1986. Additionally, he was proud to accept the Lawyer of the Americas Award from the University of Miami in 1984 and the Pan American Informatica Comunicaciones Expo Award in 1983. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Landy is also listed in editions of Who’s Who In Finance and Industry, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest and Who’s Who in the World. Notably, he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1954 in Korea.
