Gary Maitland, Esq., Partner at Kreisberg & Maitland LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal defense.

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts from Vassar College in 1977, Mr. Maitland went on to earn a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Boston University in 1978. Subsequently, he was admitted to practice law in the state of New York, as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States, U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York. Mr. Maitland spearheaded his professional career as assistant district attorney in Brooklyn, New York from 1978 to 1987.

For more than 30 years, Mr. Maitland has excelled as a partner of Kreisberg & Maitland LLP, where he specializes in criminal defense and civil litigation. As a founding partner of the firm, he has successfully handled hundreds of cases involving labor arbitration, police misconduct and a broad range of contract and business disputes. More recently, he has been further working in the mass fair labor standard acts litigation, representing 1,800 people.

Finding great success throughout the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Maitland has been listed in the prestigious Super Lawyers since 2013. He attributes his years of success simply to his passion and dedication to his work. Presently, Mr. Maitland maintains his affiliation with the National Association of Defense Lawyers and New York State Analog. Likewise, he has been involved as a volunteer and clinical instructor of ICAP for 30 years, as an assistant scout leader for Cub Scouts of America and as a tutor for high school students.

Mr. Maitland had believed he was the first lawyer in his family, as his mother and grandmother had both been involved in the medical field. He thought attending medical school was in his bloodline, but he quickly realized he did not have a passion for medicine and subsequently pursue law school. After passing his bar exam, Mr. Maitland visited his grandmother and took her on a trip to visit her family in London. It was there that he discovered that his English family was abundant with lawyers and if he had not gone to law school, he would have broken the chain. In the near future, Mr. Maitland hopes to transition the younger generation to continue what has been built at Kreisberg & Maitland LLP.
