Paul D. Bekman, Attorney at Bekman, Marder & Adkins LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in trial law.

Matriculating at the University of Maryland, Mr. Bekman earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1971. In 1969, he began working as a law clerk at a general law practice where he was given a great deal of responsibility, which allowed him to see a real opportunity for himself to progress as a trial lawyer. Subsequently, Mr. Bekman became licensed to practice law in the state of Maryland, as well as before the U.S. District Court of Maryland and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Likewise, he became certified by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys in 2002 and was the first lawyer certified by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Maryland as a civil trial specialist in 1980.

Since 1984, Mr. Bekman has served as a partner at Bekman, Mardar & Adkins LLC in Baltimore, formerly known as Israelson, Salsbury, Clements & Bekman. In his practice, he represents people who have been hurt or killed in catastrophic injury and death cases, ranging from medical malpractice to defective products, automobile collisions, birth injury, wrongful death, and more. Earlier, between 1971 and 1984, Mr. Bekman went from associate to partner at Berenholtz, Kaplan & Heyman, P.A., formerly known as Greenberg, Engelman & Belgrad. Throughout his career, he has achieved a significant number of multi-million dollar judgments in his field and has tried at least 150 jury trials.

Notably, Mr. Bekman has been a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers since 1993, a distinguished honor achieved by less than one percent of the nation’s lawyers. In the 1997-98 year, he served as president of the Maryland State Bar Association. He was the first plaintiff’s attorney ever to hold that position for the 19,000-member organization. In addition, he had served the association as chairman of the correctional reform section, chairman of negligence insurance and worker’s compensation section, and a member of the board of governors. Likewise, Mr. Bekman was president of the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association in 1986 and president of the Baltimore City Bar Association for 1993-1994, as well as chairman of its young lawyer’s section for 1981-1982. He was also a member of the board of governors for the Federal Bar Association in 1978.

Finding great success throughout his career, Mr. Bekman has been consistently named to Super Lawyers and to the Top 100 Attorneys in Maryland. Having also been recognized by Baltimore Magazine on multiple occasions, he has been named Alumni of the Year by the University of Maryland School of Law. More recently, Mr. Bekman was listed to Law Dragon’s Top 500 Lawyers in the Country in 2020 and recognized as one of the 11 Living Legal Legends by the Bar Association of Baltimore City in 2011. Earlier, Best Lawyers in America named him Lawyer of the Year in 2009 and honored him in the fields of personal injury, medical malpractice, product liability, and admiralty in 1989. To attest to his legacy, Mr. Bekman can also be found in the fifth, eighth, ninth, and 10th editions of Who’s Who in American Law and the second and third editions of Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
