Eric W. Springer, Esq, Counsel at Horty, Springer & Mattern, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in health law.
For more than six decades, Mr. Springer was a pioneer in the field of healthcare law and a tireless advocate for civil rights. A graduate of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, Mr. Springer continued his education at New York University, earning a Bachelor of Laws in 1953. Early in his career, Mr. Springer clerked for the United States Supreme Court during the landmark school desegregation case Brown v. Board of Education, and he would later serve as a Director of Compliance for the United States Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
Through the 1960s, Mr. Springer was an associate professor of law at the University of Pittsburgh, demonstrating his commitment to fostering an ethos of professionalism and lifelong learning in the next generation of legal professionals. In 1971, he established Horty, Springer, & Mattern, a groundbreaking healthcare law firm, practicing as a senior partner and Executive Vice President until 2000, remaining as counsel. Mr. Springer is the author of several seminal texts that presaged the future of healthcare practice, including “Group Practice and the Law,” 1969, and “Automated Medical Records and the Law,” 1971, and was a contributing editor for the ongoing newsletter “Action Kit for Hospital Law.”
In recognition of a career of trailblazing work in law and social justice, Mr. Springer was named a History Maker in Law by the Smithsonian Institution and Senator John Heinz History Center and presented with numerous awards from the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Pittsburgh Black Media Federation, and the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, among others. He has been listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, and Who’s Who in Finance and Industry.
