Kurt P. Kerns, Managing Partner at Kerns Law Group, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal law.
With nearly three decades of experience to his credit, Mr. Kerns has led a prolific career as a criminal lawyer with roots in human rights litigation, international criminal law and war crimes litigation. A graduate of Washburn University’s School of Law, he received a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1991. Upon graduating, he was admitted to practice law through the Kansas Bar Association, the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Today, Mr. Kerns excels as a managing partner of Kerns Law Group in Dodge City, Kansas. He simultaneously contributes as an attorney at law with Ariagno, Kerns, Mank and White. Achievements to his credit include avoiding a conviction for 10 consecutive clients by ending the cases in either an acquittal or the sentencing of lesser charges. A respected domestic and international criminal defense attorney, Mr. Kerns is also one of only 26 attorneys from the United States that is authorized to practice before the International Criminal Court, having recently defended Commander Vinko Martinovic in a landmark case.
An expert in criminal law, Mr. Kerns has served as a contributor to the publications, “Inside the Minds: Defense Strategies for Drug Crimes,” “Kansas Criminal Law Handbook, 4th Edition” and “Life is Vague in the Hague.” For his accomplishments in the field, he has been recognized as an honoree in the Kansas/Missouri “Super Lawyer,” was presented the Courageous Attorney Award from the Kansas Bar Association and is AV Preeminent Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, among others. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Kerns retains his professional alignment with the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Kansas Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Bar Association, International Criminal Tribunal for Yugoslavia, Association of Trial Lawyers of America, International Bar Association, International Criminal Law Network, Kansas Bar Association and Wichita Bar Association.
