Edward J. Horowitz, Esq., Attorney at Edward J. Horowitz, A Professional Corporation, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in appellate law.
Mr. Horowitz became involved in the legal profession due to the encouragement and inspiration from a high school teacher, a college professor and, most of all, his father, who was also an attorney. He knew as early as high school that he would pursue law, as he fondly remembers going to watch trials at a local municipal court with a friend in his teenage years. Mr. Horowitz attributes his success to his invaluable education from Harvard Law School, as well as the opportunity to learn from excellent colleagues and his own drive to be the most skilled appellate attorney possible. He earned a Bachelor of Arts, summa cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1963 and received a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Harvard University in 1966.
Mr. Horowitz commenced his career in 1966 as a deputy attorney general for the Department of Justice in California, remaining until 1969. He then became a partner with Goldhammer & Horowitz from 1969 to 1972. For four years, he served as a senior attorney for the Second District Court of Appeal for the Judicial Court of California until 1976 and was a partner with Horvitz, Greines & Horowitz from 1976 to 1978. Since 1978, Mr. Horowitz has been a lawyer with Edward J. Horowitz, A Professional Corporation.
The highlight of Mr. Horowitz’s professional career was developing his confidence. Having won a handful of significant cases, he realized he had become as talented a lawyer as anyone he knew, and earning recognition from his peers was particularly meaningful. Among other achievements, Mr. Horowitz notes his role in a high-profile case when he represented Nicole Brown Simpson’s estate in O.J. Simpson’s appeal case as a memorable time. Without his work, the appellate court would likely have decided the case differently. A theory he devised and presented was upheld by the state Supreme Court and has even been cited in other cases since. He is gratified to have won important cases throughout his career that have either established new rules or changed old rules. Overall, Mr. Horowitz reflects on his career with few regrets and is proud of his devotion to his clients.
As a testament to his success, Mr. Horowitz has received myriad accolades including, but not limited to, being AV Peer Review Rated by Martindale-Hubble every year since 1979 and named to Super Lawyers from 2004 to 2020. He was also named to Best Lawyers in America by the United States News & World Report L.P in 2017, named California Lawyer of the Year by California Journal Magazine in 1999 and received a Plaque from Martindale-Hubble, MH Sub I, LLC dba Internet Brand in 2019 and 2020. Likewise, he has been inducted as a member of many esteemed organizations including the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers, Criminal Courts Bar Association-Los Angeles, Los Angeles County Bar Association and Judicial Council of California, to name a few. He is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in America.
