Backed by terrific law school professors and a family involved in real estate, Ms. Pesner desired to spearhead a career in real estate law. She matriculated at American University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in 1973 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1976. Describing real estate property as the basis of most people’s wealth and persona, Ms. Pesner’s goal is to elevate the quality of work that is done by lawyers through the use of land records or documentation of land deals. In addition, what inspired her to get into real estate was the fact that it can be an uplifting area of the law, as purchasing homes is often a happy experience. Ms. Pesner is very passionate about her career and enjoys it enough to be willing to volunteer numerous hours to the education of lawyers in the real estate area. Since 2019, Ms. Pesner has excelled as a lawyer and shareholder with Pesner Altmiller Melnick & DeMers.
Ms. Pesner commenced her career with Walstad, Wickwire, Peterson, Gavin & Asselin, where she was a paralegal and associate from 1978 to 1980. She went on to serve as an associate with Peterson & Associates from 1980 to 1983 and as a partner with Peterson & Pesner, Professional Corporation from 1983 to 1990. Between 1991 and 2019, she has also served in partner roles at Peterson, Pesner, Cochran & Basha, Professional Corporation; Gordon, Estabrook, Yeonas & Pesner, Professional Corporation; Gordon & Pesner; and Pesner & Kawamota. Looking back, she is particularly proud of being chair of the real estate section of the Virginia State Bar from 1996 to 1997. As a testament to her success, Ms. Pesner was included in Influential Women in Law from Virginia Lawyers Weekly in 2019 and 2020 Class of Leaders in Law, and earned the Traver Scholar Award from the Virginia Bar Association and Virginia Continuing Legal Education in 2008. She has been named to Virginia Super Lawyers from 2006 to 2019 and to Virginia’s Legal Elite from 2012 to 2020, as well listed in Best Lawyers by Washingtonian Magazine and Virginia Top Lawyer by Northern Virginia Magazine in 2019 and 2020.
