Stephen Michael Everhart, BA, JD, Professor Emeritus at the Stetson University College of Law, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in law education.
Mr. Everhart was inspired to become a lawyer as a direct result of the influence of his parents. In 1968, he graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Asian studies. By 1971, he had earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Florida State University College of Law. Shortly thereafter, he was admitted to the Florida State Bar and began his career as a prosecutor at Jimmy Russel’s Office in Pinellas County, Florida. In the years that followed, he worked with Blues & Everhart and the Pinellas County Public Defender’s Office. From the mid-1990s until 2014, Mr. Everhart excelled as a professor at the Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida. He remains at the university today as an emeritus professor of justice systems advocacy.
Throughout the course of his illustrious career, Mr. Everhart has been abundantly awarded on numerous occasions. He has earned the Public Defender Award Plaque, the Criminal Law Section Award Plaque and the Criminal Procedure Section Award. He has additionally authored numerous books. Presently, Mr. Everhart maintains membership affiliation with the Florida Bar Association and with Phi Kappa Phi. Reflecting on his many accomplishments, he credits his love for his work for a grand career. He believes nothing is more exciting than it is to help people find justice. Mr. Everhart continues to work and live by his motto, “Help more, hurt less.”
