Mykell L. Messman, Attorney at The Law Offices of Messman & Alleman PLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal defense.
Devoted to helping children navigate the juvenile system, Ms. Messman believes all children, despite the circumstances of their upbringing, deserve the chance to rehabilitate and see they can positively contribute to society. Since 2018, she has served as an attorney at the Law Offices of Messman & Alleman PLC in Virginia, where she specializes in criminal defense and family law. Additionally, she also works with DUI/DWI, child custody and visitation rights, child support, divorce, adoption, guardianship, business and commercial law, estate planning, contract law and litigation and appeals. Prior to her current post, Ms. Messman served as an attorney with Messman Law PLC from 2011 to 2018 and as an associate with Joseph W. Hood Jr. from 2010 to 2011. The year before, she was corporate counsel to the Liberty Tax Service.
Presently, Ms. Messman maintains affiliation with the Virginia State Bar, Virginia Beach Bar Association, Norfolk Bar Association, Portsmouth Bar Association, Indigent Criminal Defense, James Kent Inn of Court, U.S. District Court Criminal Justice Act Panel and Export Network. In addition, she serves as president of the Norfolk Army Recruiting Command Family Readiness Group, treasurer of the Virginia Women Attorneys Association and a paralegal studies board of advisors member at Bryant & Stratton College. She is also an active volunteer with reading Enhances All Children and the Community Police Liaison. Notably, Ms. Messman received an Individual Award for Best Cross Examination at the Regent’s Trial Competition and was named to Super Lawyers, as well as the Top 10 in Criminal Defense & Family Law in Virginia. Committed to her faith, she attributes her success thus far in her career to the Lord, perseverance, dedication and her ability to utilize her talents.
Ms. Messman received an Associate of Arts in humanities from Dutchess Community College in 2004 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in history and political science, cum laude, from Purchase College in 2006. Notably, in 2009, she obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Regent University School of Law. Shortly thereafter, she became certified to practice in Virginia, as well as before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. Ms. Messman and her husband are currently working toward a Doctor of Philosophy in international studies at Old Dominion University, which she plans to obtain in 2025. Her dissertation will be on human trafficking and the international components of human trafficking sold at the ages of four and five years old. Ms. Messman believes when children are victimized through trafficking a country is losing a valuable resource, such as the next set of leaders with sound morals and values. Knowing a country cannot be successful when children are being hurt, she plans to fight for this cause for the rest of her legal career on the local and international level.
