She went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Pomona College in 1970 and a Master of Business Administration from Pacific Lutheran University in 1971. Later on, she achieved a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the Santa Clara University School of Law in 1996, leading her to become certified to practice in the states of California and Hawaii. Notably, since 2019, Ms. Adams has served as a lawyer with the Law Offices of Jo-Ann Adams LLC in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she specializes in estate planning. In addition, she serves as a university lecturer of business law, drawing upon her nearly 20 years of practice in Hawaii.
A leading advocate for LGBTQ+ issues, Ms. Adams was proud to serve as grand marshal for two gay pride parades. Likewise, she has received awards from the local chapter of the National Women’s Political Conference. She is also the notable author of the 2012 work, “A New Day in Hawaii: A Political Activist’s Remembrance Of The Grassroots Effort To Pass The Civil Unions Bill.” To remain abreast of her industry, Ms. Adams maintains affiliation with the Hawaii State Bar Association and California State Bar Association. Prior, she served as a member of the Waikiki Neighborhood Board and Greater Honolulu Chapter of the Business Network International, as well as supervising systems analyst for Riverside County in the 1970s. Earlier in her career, Ms. Adams was a student actor from 2003 to 2010 and she continues to serve as a patron of the arts in her local community.
