Notably, the firm employs a staff of more than 1,200 in 17 offices on four continents and handles cases for clients across the globe. Mr. Bergman’s practice encompasses all phases of tax law, estate planning and trusts, business law, and advising on pension plans. Admitted to the Connecticut Bar in 1959, he is also a registered foreign lawyer in the United Kingdom since 2002, as well as a certified public accountant. Early in his career, Mr. Bergman was a director at Fleet Bank and began a small solo practice focused on tax planning for wealthy clients in 1962. With the goal of someday becoming a major player in the Connecticut market, he refined his expertise and guided himself to professional success.

Finding great success in his legal career, Mr. Bergman was honored with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Connecticut Law Tribune and was recognized by Chambers USA as a Senior Statesman in their High Net Worth Guide in 2019. Listed in Best Lawyers since 2014, he has also been named to Best Lawyers in Boston, Greater New York, Connecticut, and America. He attributes his success to always being extremely well prepared and always putting the needs of the client first. In addition to his primary roles, Mr. Bergman is a renowned speaker and instructor, having conducted guest lectures at the University of Heidelberg Law School and the University of Michigan Law School. He has also conducted numerous corporate keynote speeches and presentations at conferences such as the FOX Fall Forum. To remain abreast in his industry, he maintains affiliation with the International Arts and Ideas Festival, Connecticut Bar Association, American Bar Association, and Dartmouth College Class of 1955 as an executive committee member and gift-planning director. He is a former member of the Yale University School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry Advisory Board.

Mr. Bergman achieved a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Dartmouth College and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Michigan Law School. Continuing his education, he received a Master of Business Administration from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, now the Tuck School of Business, at his alma mater, Dartmouth College. Upon his father’s sudden death, the young Mr. Bergamn was exposed to tax planning while working with attorneys regarding his father’s estate and assets. Intrigued by the work, he chose to become a certified public accountant to best serve in the field as a well-rounded attorney. Looking ahead, Mr. Bergman plans to continue doing what he is doing and watch his firm develop around the world. He hopes to be remembered as a person who listened and helped solve problems for his clients. Mr. Bergman is the proud husband to his late wife Lillian, father of Frank and Lisa and grandfather to Evan, Alex, Sydney, and Jonathan.
