James H. Flanagan, Jr., Retired Lawyer, Educator, and Author, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
In his youth, Mr. Flanagan worked as a page at his local library. During his time there, he did a lot of reading, which is what opened his eyes to the possibility of becoming a lawyer. When it came time to pursue a formal education, Mr. Flanagan attended Stanford University. In 1956, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science, which was followed by a Juris Doctor in 1961. In the years that followed, he was certified to practice in the states of Oregon and California. Mr. Flanagan has since been certified by the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Southern, and Northern districts of California, as well as the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
In 1962, Mr. Flanagan began his career as an associate at Creede, Dawson, & McElrath in Fresno, California. By 1964, he had proved himself worthy of a position as a partner at Pettitt, Blumberg, & Sherr. From 1975 until 1998, Mr. Flanagan excelled in private practice firms across California. After serving the Greater Fresno Area Chamber of Commerce, he retired from the law. However, Mr. Flanagan continues to be active today as an author.
After demonstrating his superb writing abilities as a weekly columnist for local newspapers, Mr. Flanagan published his first book in 1962. Though he took a break from writing to pursue law, he has since returned to the field. In 2019, Mr. Flanagan authored two books, “Resolving Conflict by Mediation,” and “Managing Conflict-Strategies to Create & Teach Resolution of Conflict.” As a testament to his professional success, he is featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the West, and Who’s Who in the World.
