Ben Johnson Talbott, Jr., Lawyer at Bardenwerper, Talbott & Roberts, PLLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in commercial litigation, contract cases, and general corporate work.
Mr. Talbott has had a number of relatives who practiced law, including his great-great grandfather and great grandfather as well as other patriarchs in his family. His father had a law degree but didn’t practice. He encouraged Mr. Talbott to go into the field. Following the encouragement, Mr. Talbott earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, philosophy, and from Xavier University with magna cum laude honors in 1961. He then received a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard University Law School in 1964. Upon completion of his degrees, Mr. Talbot was admitted to practice law in the state of Kentucky in 1965 and for the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit in 1967. Right out of college, he became a law clerk to Chief Judge Henry Brooks of the United States District Court of Kentucky from 1964 to 1965. From there, he became an associate for Middleton, Reutlinger & Baird from 1965 to 1968. He then took on the role of partner with Middleton, Reutlinger & Baird, remaining with the firm until 1980. That year, he founded Westfall, Talbott & Woods and became a partner. The firm changed to Talbott & Talbott PLLC in 2000, before changing again to Bardenwerper, Talbott & Roberts in 2004, where Mr. Talbott has been the senior partner since.
Throughout his career, Mr. Talbott has worked on a multitude of cases that excited him. On one, in particular, he remembers working with the terms of an agreement between Louisville Gas and Electric Company and the Environmental Protection Agency, which resulted in Louisville Gas and Electric Company becoming the first electric company in the United States to aid the removal of sulfur dioxide in the atmosphere. He considers this one of his greatest achievements. As a testament to his success, Mr. Talbott was named as the Outstanding Young Man of Louisville by the Louisville Jaycees in 1976. Further, he has been listed in the Bar Registry of Pre-Eminent Lawyers. He is also been on the boards, and at times, chairman and/or president of many civic, governmental, and educational institutions, many of which have honored him for his services including Louisville Theatrical Association, Kentucky Center of the Arts, Louisville Orchestra, University of Louisville and Harvard Law School Alumni Association of Kentucky. An AV Rated Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Talbott has been inducted as a member of various esteemed organizations. These include, but are not limited to, the Kentucky Society of Mayflower Descendants, Phi Kappa Phi, the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Louisville Bar Association, and the Kentucky Bar Association.
