With an extensive trial and appellate practice, Mr. North focuses on corporate litigation involving bankruptcy, creditor’s rights and a variety of construction and commercial disputes. The city attorney for East Ridge, Tennessee from 2012 to 2016, he served Shumacker Witt Gaither & Whitaker, P.C. as a shareholder for one year and of counsel from 2002 to 2005. Mr. North also served of counsel for Schumacker & Thompson from 1990 to 2002, as a partner with Ray & North, P.C. from 1987 to 1990 and as an associate at Thomas E. Ray, P.C. from 1985 to 1987. In the earlier years of his career, he worked with Tanner, Jahn, Atchley, Bridges & Jahn as an associate from 1980 to 1984 and as a partner in 1985.
Mr. North achieved a Bachelor of Arts, with honors, from the University of Tennessee in 1977 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Memphis Law School in 1980. Admitted to practice in Tennessee and Washington D.C., he now holds membership with the Chattanooga Bar Association, American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, American Association for Justice, Directory of Bankruptcy Institute and Tennessee Municipal Attorneys Association. Notably, Mr. North has received numerous accolades for his work including the People’s Choice Award from the Chattanooga Times Free-Press in 2017 and 2018 and President’s Award from the Tennessee Bar Association in 2011. Named an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1989, he was also listed in Best Lawyers in America and AV Preeminent Peer-Review Rated by Martindale-Hubbell. Looking ahead, Mr. North plans to continue practicing and mentoring up-and-coming, young lawyers.
