Mr. Gay grew up seeking a career in which he could contribute to the just and fair nature of the world. Naturally, he gravitated toward pursuing law. In 1974, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from Emory University and went on to earn a Master’s degree in legal and constitutional history from Rice University. He then proceeded to acquire a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Houston. In the following months, he became licensed to practice law in the state of Texas, as well as before the United States Supreme Court. Today, Mr. Gay specializes in appellate, energy and utility and legislative advocacy and has been continuously listed to Best Lawyers in America since 1993. Selected to the Texas Super Lawyers List, he was the recipient of the 2011 Marvin J. Glink Private Practice Local Government Attorney Award by the International Municipal Lawyers Association.
Since 1978, Mr. Gay has demonstrated excellence as an attorney. From 1984 until 1988, he worked as the assistant attorney general for the Public Utility Council in the state of Texas. In 2000, he was brought onto the staff at Lloyd Gosselink, where he remains today. Additionally, he serves as general counsel to the Texas Coalition For Affordable Power, which secures electric energy in the retail market for more than 165 political subdivisions. A member of the Litigation Counsel of America and State Bar of Texas, he serves as general counsel to the three of the largest coalitions in the cities of Texas. In the coming years, Mr. Gay would like to become licensed in Virginia, where he wants to take on non-profit and pro bono work on behalf of various organizations.
