After receiving a Bachelor of Science in economics from the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School of Finance and Commerce in 1962, Mr. Jaffe notably served as a lieutenant and law specialist for the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve from 1965 to 1968. Upon leaving the service, he went on to achieve a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Columbia University in 1985. Subsequently, Mr. Jaffe gained admittance to practice in the states of New Jersey, Louisiana and New York, as well as the U.S. District Courts of the Eastern District of New York, U.S. District Court of New Jersey, U.S. Court of Military Appeals, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second and Fifth Circuits and U.S. Supreme Court.
Mr. Jaffe joined Hill, Betts & Nash LLP in New York City in 1969 as an associate, and since 1972, he has notably served as an executive partner. In his career, Mr. Jaffe has counseled major shipping groups with respect to their corporate structure, operations, and insurance. He cites a case on the Exxon Valdez oil spill to have been a standout moment of his career trajectory. Additionally, he is also involved in general corporate work, mergers and acquisitions, taxation, equipment financing and leasing, FMC and other regulatory work, as well as civil litigation. To support his legal career, Mr. Jaffe holds membership with the American Bar Association, New Jersey Bar Association, Louisiana Bar Association, Association Bar City New York, and Maritime Law Association. Alongside his various career accomplishments, Mr. Jaffe is also listed in the 54th through 61st editions of Who’s Who in America, the seventh through 15th editions of Who’s Who in American Law, and the 24th edition of Who’s Who in the East.
