Ralph J. Salerno, Of Counsel at Genova Burns, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in land use, redevelopment and commercial real estate transactions.
Since he was a young man, Mr. Salerno was the person people went to for advice and he always thoroughly enjoyed helping people. It was a no brainer to him to pursue a career in law in order to represent people to the best of his ability. In 1961 he achieved a BA in political science from the University of Miami, and he went on to obtain a JD from the University of Tulsa College of Law in 1966. Now AV Preeminent Rated by Martindale-Hubbell, Mr. Salerno is admitted to practice law in the states of New Jersey and Oklahoma, as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Supreme Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. Notably, Mr. Salerno has garnered much praise for his work, including receiving an award for civic contributions and being named a top lawyer by New York Magazine in 2017.
For the past 16 years, since 2004, Mr. Salerno has served Of Counsel for Genova Burns in Newark, New Jersey in which he is a member of the Commercial Real Estate and Redevelopment and Land Use and Approvals Practice Groups. Specializing in land use, redevelopment, and commercial real estate transactions, for more than four decades he has handled major residential and commercial development applications throughout New Jersey for a broad range of statewide and national real estate development groups. He has prepared land use analysis reports to assist the Federal Bankruptcy Court and has also been involved in negotiations, purchases, and sales of casino properties in Atlantic City.
Mr. Salerno commenced his career in law in 1966 as an associate at New Jersey Bloomfield Law Firm. Four years later he joined a private practice as an attorney where he excelled in his role until 1982 when he rejoined the team at New Jersey Bloomfield Law as an attorney. He left the firm in 1991 and then spent 1997 to 2004 as a partner at the Roseland New Jersey Law Firm. Mr. Salerno remains a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association and was previously on the 2008 New Jersey Real Estate Advisory Board. He is additionally involved with Parks and Recreation, the Community Parking Committee, and the County Executive Transaction Teams.
Looking back on his career, Mr. Salerno attributes his great success to his parents who taught him the importance of hard work, guided him to receive an exceptional education, and gave him the tools to accomplish his dreams. He also thanks the World War II veterans who practiced law at the time he started his career. He learned from them what a genuine, caring lawyer looked like, and he has tried to mirror their style of practice for the past 54 years. Mr. Salerno’s advice to aspiring lawyers is to be sure of your passions, get involved in your local community, and have a strong understanding of government.
