Mr. Myers earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science cum laude from Union College in 1976. Deciding on a career in law, he continued his education at Loyola University, receiving a Juris Doctorate in 1979. Upon completion of his degree, Mr. Myers worked hard to receive admittance to practice law in The District of Columbia and Louisiana in 1979. He then was admitted to practice law for the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Federal Circuit and the Fifth Circuit, United State District Court for the Districts of The District of Columbia, Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana, Supreme Court of the United States, United States Tax Court and United States Court of Federal Claims.
Mr. Myers began his career in 1979, as an attorney advisor to the Honorable Judge Edward S. Smith at the United States Court of Appeals for Federal Claims remaining a year. From there, he became an associate with Duncan Allen & Mitchell, until 1981. He then took the role of associate with the U.S. Department of the Treasury for the next two years. From 1982 to 1984, he was an attorney-advisor for Judge Jules G. Korner at the United States Tax Court. While in the position, he was also an associate with Davidson Meaux Sonnier & McEllgott from 1983 to 1985. In 1985, Mr. Myers found a more permanent position as a partner with Roy Forrest, Lopresto, DeCourt & Myers, and Predecessor Firms, where he stayed until 1997. He opened the Law Offices of Stephen Hawley Myers, LLC in 1997 and continues there to this day. During that time, he also held the positions of general counsel with Power Rig Drilling Company from 1986 to 1997 and commissioner of the Louisiana State Police Commission from 2001 to 2008. Since 2002, he has also been the chairman of the National Business Advisory Council.
Always wanting to be active in his community, Mr. Myers has been on the board of directors and treasurer for Acadiana Youth, Inc from 1986 to 1994 and vice chairman and on the board of directors of the Louisiana Council for Fiscal Reform from 1986 to 1996. Since 2001, he has been a trustee with the H-M Foundation. As a testament to his success. Mr. Myers was named to Super Lawyer in 2018, received a Distinguished Award from Martindale Hubbel Peer Review in 2017, and named Starthmore’s Professional of the Year in International, State, and Federal Litigation from 2016 to 2017. He has been named to Top Attorneys of North America and Lawyers of Distinction. He is also listed in numerous editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in Finance and Industry and Who’s Who in America.
