Passionate about reform and equipped with a strong sense of justice helped inform Mr. Curtis that a career in law was the right decision for him. As a partner and founding member of the Overman Legal Group, he utilizes his skills and expertise to aid clients in a wide array of matters pertaining to criminal law and drug charges. Prior to joining this firm, he gained experience as the owner of Clay Curtis Law PLLC, a medical malpractice defense of Wiggins Sewell and Ogletree and as an attorney for the Oklahoma County Public Defender’s Office. Mr. Curtis’ career happened organically. He found early on that he excelled in criminal cases and his boss at the time put him in a position to do more of that work. He appointed him second chair to teach younger lawyers on homicides and he continued to try more homicide cases. He became very in-depth at it and it grew into something he loved doing.
Mr. Curtis first set out in his academic pursuits to receive a Bachelor of Science in economics from Oklahoma State University. He continued building the foundations of his education at the University Of Oklahoma College of Law, receiving a JD in 2011. In addition, he is a graduate of the Trial Lawyers College in Dubois. While earning his degree in law, he received an academic achievement award in criminal procedure and was recognized on the honor roll several times. He participated in the College of Law’s Criminal Defense Clinic and represented numerous individuals pro bono. Furthermore, Mr. Curtis was involved with the school’s moot court and worked for Wiggins Sewell and Ogletree. A courtroom veteran, he has tried over 25 cases to a jury and has had numerous not guilty verdicts varying from minor felonies to murder in the first degree. Additionally, Mr. Curtis graduated from the first-ever criminal defense course offered to lawyers focusing on crime scene investigation techniques by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
