Theodore Henry Ritter has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in plaintiff personal injury, insurance defense, land use, commercial litigation and business transactional law.
When Mr. Ritter was young, his grandmother realized a potential in him to do good for others. She encouraged him to take his natural talents and propensity for helping others in the field of law. On this suggestion, he enrolled in Marietta College, earning a Bachelor of Arts in 1970. He continued at Washington and Lee University to receive a JD in 1973 and was admitted to the New Jersey state bar that same year. His grandmother’s inkling that he could help others in this venture has become a hallmark of his profession. In the nearly five decades of his practice, Mr. Ritter has not received a single complaint from a client. In 2011, he was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Bar Association. This award is not common as it has only recognized six other individuals over the past 40 years.
Early in his career, Mr. Ritter garnered experience as an associate with Horuvitz and Perlow from 1973 to 1974 and was made partner at Horuvitz, Perlow & Ritter in 1975. From 1979 to 1984, he provided his skills as an assistant prosecutor with Cumberland County and from 1984 to 1987, served as a regional deputy public defender in the Cumberland region. He established his own law firm, The Ritter Law Office, LLC, in 1979 and has continuously worked hard to reflect his client’s goals and legal matters in this respect. In addition to these roles, Mr. Ritter served as a prosecutor with the City of Bridgeton from 1974 to 1976. In 1976, he joined the Hopewell Township Zoning Board as a solicitor and worked in this capacity until 2005. During this time, he also solicited for the Bridgeton Housing Authority between 1984 and 1985 and on the Upper Deerfield Township Zoning Board from 1983 to 2010. Furthermore, Mr. Ritter was the chair of the New Jersey Board on Attorney Certified from 1992 to 1996 and has been on the Upperhill Planning Board since 2011.
Out of his many career achievements, the one that most stands out to Mr. Ritter is receiving the New Jersey Civil and Criminal Trial Attorney Certification in 1983. This certification came early on in his career and he had to take a test, submit peer reviews and references in order to receive the official recognition. In addition, he has received accolades such as the New Jersey Professional Lawyer of the Year from the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in 1999 and the Trial Bar Award from Trial Attorneys of New Jersey in 2003. Mr. Ritter has remained committed to providing the best quality of services and care through professional affiliations. These include the American Board of Trial Advocates, the New Jersey Institute of Local Government Attorneys, the Supreme Court Board on Attorney Certifications, the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Cumberland County Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey and a myriad of other institutions.
