With nearly 45 years of professional experience, Mr. Brennan is a partner with Brennan McKenna Lawlor, having been a partner with Brennan, Trainor, Billman, and Bennett, LLP, since 2001. Prior to obtaining these positions, he was a partner and co-leader of criminal practice at Knight, Manzi, Brennan, Ostrom, and Ham, PA from 1998 to 2001. Earlier in his career, he was an associate with DePaul, Willoner, and Kenkel, PA, from 1976 to 1980. In addition to his primary roles, he has served as a guest lecturer for the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the NLADA Life in Balance Death Penalty Conference, the Judicial Educational Conference for the State of Maryland, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Maryland State Attorneys Association, and the Maryland Public Defenders Conference.
Mr. Brennan first pursued an education with Boston College, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in history, magna cum laude, in 1973. He continued his studies with the Columbus School of Law at the Catholic University of America, earning a Juris Doctor in 1976. He has been admitted to practice in the state of Maryland and the District of Columbia, as well as before the United States Courts of Appeals for the 4th, 6th, Federal, and DC Circuits, the United States Supreme Court, and the United States District Courts for the Districts of Maryland and DC.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Brennan has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. A fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys Association. He has also been active with the American Inns of Court, the American Bar Association, the Maryland Trial Lawyers Association, the Prince George’s County Bar Association, and the DC Bar. He is a member of the National Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Knights of Columbus, and Phi Beta Kappa.
Throughout his career, Mr. Brennan has been recognized for his contributions. The recipient of the DiRito Award and the John Adams Award for Extraordinary Defense Service from the Federal Defenders of Maryland, he was also presented with the Robert C. Heeney Memorial Award for Exemplifying the Highest Professional Standards and Achievements by the Maryland State Bar Association. He has been named among the Top 75 Lawyers in Washington, among the Best Lawyers in America, and a Maryland Super Lawyer, and he holds an AV-Preeminent Rating with Martindale-Hubbell. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
