Robert A. Sedler, Distinguished Professor of Law at Wayne State University, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership.
At the age of 14, Mr. Sedler knew he wanted to become a lawyer. He set out to achieve this goal at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1956 and then a Juris Doctor in 1959. In 1961, he was hired as an assistant professor of law at St. Louis University. Through this position, he unearthed a genuine passion for teaching. Though he left the university in 1965, Mr. Sedler’s passion for teaching remained.
From 1966 until 1977, Mr. Sedler was the associate professor to the professor of law at the University of Kentucky. In 1977, he relocated to Wayne State University, where he was hired as a full-time professor. In 2000, he was given the title of distinguished professor of law. He remains there today, continuing to educate future lawyers on the complex nature of the law. Through teaching, Mr. Sedler has had the opportunity to provide insight to a number of different cases. These opportunities have been the highlights of his career, as his observations have resulted in rulings of lasting significance. By 2021, Mr. Sedler will be fully retired. He looks forward to spending his future with his wife, though he will always cherish his experiences as a professor.
A respected individual in his field, Mr. Sedler has been affiliated with the American Bar Association, the American Association of University Professors, Phi Beta Kappa, and the Order of the Coif. His numerous professional achievements have resulted in a multitude of accolades. These awards include, but are not limited to, the Bernard Gottfried Bill of Rights Day Award from the Metropolitan Detroit Branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, the Champion of Justice Award from the State Bar of Michigan, and the John W. Reed Michigan Lawyer Legacy Award. As a further testament to his success, he is featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the Midwest, and Who’s Who in the World, as well as the 7th and 8th edition of Who’s Who in American Education. More recently, in 2019, his enduring professional success was commended with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.
