Representing individuals against corporations and larger groups, Mr. DeSanto has been a private practice lawyer in Libertyville, Illinois, since 1972 and partner at DeSanto, Morgan & Taylor since 1999. He began his law career as an assistant state’s attorney in Waukegan, Illinois, in 1969, remaining in this position for three years before becoming an associate at Finn, Geiger & Rafferty from 1972 to 1974 and partner at Rawles, Katz & DeSanto from 1975 to 1980. He then opened his first private practice in Waukegan from 1980 to 1988, and later became a senior partner at DeSanto & Bonamarte from 1988 to 1991 and opened his second private practice, James J. DeSanto and Associates, from 1992 to 1999. Having held a number of other professional roles, Mr. DeSanto pursued a formal education at the University of Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Arts in political science and history/psychology in 1965. He then attained a JD from DePaul University in 1969, and since then has been admitted to practice in numerous state and federal courts.
Highly active in his local community, Mr. DeSanto co-edited the Tort Trends newsletter from 1988 to 1991. A fellow of the Illinois Bar Institute, he maintains involvement with numerous organizations related to his field including the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Illinois State Bar Association and the Jefferson Inns of Court, among others. In light of his accomplishments, Mr. DeSanto received an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell and is the recipient of the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, among many other accolades. He has also been listed in several editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
