After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts from Fairfield University in 1972, he began his career as a law intern and the chief warrant officer for the Saint Louis County Juvenile Court from 1973 to 1975. Subsequently graduating from Saint Louis University with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1975, he worked as a law clerk for the Honorable John Bardgett for the Supreme Court of Missouri before flourishing as an associate and a junior partner with Gray and Ritter from 1975 to 1985. Prior to his present position, Mr. DeVoto excelled as a senior partner with Wuestling, James & DeVoto from 1985 to 1995, an attorney with the Law Offices of Thomas C. DeVoto, P.C. from 1996 to 2002 and a senior partner for DeVoto & Benbenek, LLC from 2003 to 2002.

Representing cases before the Supreme Court of Missouri, the Supreme Court of the United States, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Missouri and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth Circuits, Mr. DeVoto has flourished as a guest lecturer for Saint Louis University, the Washington University School of Law and the Missouri Bar CLE. Beyond his primary responsibilities in his field, he was additionally active as an athletic director for the Christ Prince of Peace Parish from 1990 to 1994, the advisory director of National City Bank in Saint Louis from 1995 to 2000 and an assistant scoutmaster for the DesPeres Troop 313 from 1992 to 2001. A frequent author of articles for law journals and chapters for handbooks, including the Saint Louis Bar Journal, he has been affiliated with the American Bar Association, Kiwanis International, the American Association for Justice, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys and the Missouri Bar Foundation, from which he accepted a fellow designation as well as the Lon O. Hocker Memorial Trial Lawyer Award. Attributing his success to his many mentors, Mr. DeVoto has been recognized as a Super Lawyer since 2008, an AV-rated Preeminent Attorney from Martindale-Hubbell since 1985, among the Best Lawyers in America for Plaintiff’s Product Liability in 2015, and in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who in American Law.
