Joseph Drennan, Attorney in Private Practice, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the Legal Industry.
With nearly 40 years of professional experience, Mr. Drennan has held a private practice as an attorney since 1981. In addition to his primary roles, he served as an adjunct faculty member with the University of Baltimore from 2007 to 2013 and with Germanna Community College from 1995 to 2000. He has been a teacher of criminal justice law practice and procedure, health care law, civil rights law, constitutional law, copyright and trademark litigation, bankruptcy law, and defense of claims under the Alien Tort Claims Act. He has also completed litigation on behalf of victims of state-sponsored terrorism.
Mr. Drennan first pursued an education with the University of Richmond, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 1978. He continued his studies with the Catholic University of America, earning a Juris Doctor in 1981. He has been admitted to practice in the state of Virginia and the District of Columbia, as well as before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, the United States Courts of Appeals for the Fourth District, the Federal Circuit, and the District of Columbia, and the United States District Courts for the District of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.
A respected voice in his areas of interest, Mr. Drennan has been affiliated with a number of professional organizations. He is a member of the American Association for Justice, the National Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys, the National Legal Aid and Defense Association, and the District of Columbia Bar Association. He has also been active with the American Bar Association, the Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington, DC, the Alexandria Bar Association, the American Immigration Lawyers Association, and the Bar Association of the District of Columbia. A lifetime member of the Waterville Historical Society, he is a member of the Oneida County Historical Society, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the Enfield Historical Society, and the Cleveland Club of Washington, DC.
Throughout his career, Mr. Drennan has been recognized for his contributions. He has received awards and accolades for his achievements. He has been featured in numerous honors publications, including multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of Emerging Leaders in America.
