Neal Jay Block, Senior Counsel at Baker & McKenzie, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in domestic and international tax issues.
Esteemed in the field of law, Mr. Block has worked for Baker & McKenzie since 1969. He has served as senior counsel since 2009 and has previously worked as a client credit director from 1989 to 2002, partner to senior counsel from 1974 to 2009, and an associate from 1969 to 1974. He previously worked as an attorney and advisor to the U.S. Tax Court in Washington, D.C., from 1967 to 1969 as well as an adjunct professor of law at Kent Law School at Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago from 1986 to 1990. Though he initially focused his work in accounting, Mr. Block now focuses on taxation law. He practices both domestically and internationally, has done pro bono work with the Mended Heart Association, served as president of the North Western Hospital chapter, and won three U.S. court appeal cases regarding disc ownership and Roth IRA plans.
In preparation for his career in law, Mr. Block earned a Bachelor of Science, cum laude, from the University of Illinois in 1964 and a JD from the University of Chicago in 1967. His bar admissions include Washington, D.C., Illinois, and Florida, while his certifications include the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st and 2nd Circuits in 2017, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in 1991, U.S. Claims Court in 1990, U.S. Court of Appeals for the 3rd and 6th Circuits in 1968, and U.S. District Court of Illinois in 1967. As a testament to his success, Mr. Block holds a membership with the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, American Bar Association, Illinois Society of CPAs, Illinois State Bar Association, and Chicago Bar Association.
