Joseph Strode, Partner at Bridges, Young, Matthews & Drake PLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal profession.
Mr. Strode pursued his higher education at the University of Arkansas, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1969. He garnered a year of professional experience as a design engineer at Texas Instruments Incorporated, becoming a patent agent at the company in 1970, and realized that he wanted to seek a career with more human involvement. Mr. Strode’s father was a surveyor and often worked with a lawyer, George Pike, who handled boundary disputes and real estate issues. Mr. Strode came to have a great deal of respect for this man, and when he decided to re-orient his career pursuits, he was drawn to the legal profession. Continuing his academic pursuits at Southern Methodist University, he earned a JD in 1972 and was licensed to practice law in Arkansas.
From 1972 to 1974, Mr. Strode worked as an associate at Bridges, Young, Matthews & Drake PLC in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. He rose to the rank of a partner in 1975, and has continued to practice law ever since, amassing more than 45 years of service to the firm. Throughout his legal career, he has found the most rewarding aspect of the profession to be achieving positive results for his clients. To aspiring professionals in the next generation, Mr. Strode advises that the most important thing is to find an enjoyable career and work hard at it.
In addition to his primary pursuits, Mr. Strode has dedicated his time to numerous civic organizations. From 1975 to 1977, he worked as a member of the board of directors for the United Way of Jefferson County, and from 1983 to 1987, he served the Leadership Pine Bluff program in multiple capacities, acting as the president and as a member of the executive committee, as well as serving on the board of directors. Mr. Strode also held the post of chairman of the Pine Bluff Airport Commission in 1993. He has maintained affiliations with myriad professional organizations, including the Order of the Coif, Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu, the Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce, the Jefferson County Bar Association and the Arkansas Bar Association. In his leisure time, Mr. Strode enjoys hunting and fishing, and in the coming years, he plans to continue his legal endeavors.
