Robert Medvecky, Attorney, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal profession.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Mr. Medvecky set out on his legal pursuits by attending Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in 1952. Enticed by the challenge of the career, he became a student at Harvard University where he received a JD in 1955. He was admitted to practice law by the Illinois State Bar that same year, and accepted his first position as an associate at Lord, Bissell & Brook in Chicago, a post he held until 1957. Following his departure, Mr. Medvecky was admitted to practice by the Connecticut Bar and started as a general attorney at the Southern New England Telephone Company in New Haven, Connecticut, where he served for more than a decade.
In 1971, Mr. Medvecky began working at Amtrak in Washington, D.C., serving as general counsel, and as a secretary and then vice president until 1975. He recalls his tenure with the organization as a highlight in his career—he hired the entire legal and government relations departments, and was proud to have been a part of developing the unconventional, nonprofit, privately-owned and publicly-funded company. In 1972, Mr. Medvecky was licensed to practice law by the D.C. Bar, and upon his departure from Amtrak, he returned to his first legal firm, accepting a new position as a partner at Lord, Bissell & Brook in their District of Columbia location.
Mr. Medvecky continued his career as a partner at the law firm Reid & Priest in New York City, where he worked from 1978 to 1987, and in 1989, he was admitted to the Florida Bar. He advises aspiring legal professionals to work hard and never cut corners—he believes that it’s better to deliberate and do the job right than to do the job quickly. Mr. Medvecky is a member of the Harvard Club in New York City, and as a testament to his success, experience and stature, he has been selected for inclusion in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in American Law and Who’s Who in America.
