Leronia Josey, Attorney at Law at Leronia Josey & Associates, LLC, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership.

Ms. Josey met an attorney in her hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, and it was this serendipitous encounter with a successful individual that inspired Ms. Josey’s law career. Highly educated, she earned a Bachelor of Science in political science from Spelman College in 1965, a Master of Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work in 1973, a Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship at Syracuse University in 1977, and a JD from Syracuse University College of Law where she graduated cum laude in 1977. Upon her graduation, Ms. Josey served as general counsel for the Legal Honors Program with Housing and Urban Development in Washington, D.C., from 1977 to 1981. She held the role of commissioner for the Maryland Parole Commission from 1981 to 1987, assistant attorney general for the Maryland Department of Personnel from 1987 to 1989, and attorney at the Law Office of Leronia A. Josey from 1989 2005. The firm was renamed Leronia Josey & Associates, LLC in 2005 and Ms. Josey still works as an attorney.

In addition to her primary endeavors, Ms. Josey has offered pro bono legal assistance to the residents of Woodlawn Senior Center since 2009. She is a member of the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, and served as president of the National Association of Black Women Attorneys from 1983 to 1985. As testament to her success, she has been lauded with Maryland’s Top 100 Minority Business Award in 2007, the Distinguished Black Marylander Law Award in 2000, was named among Maryland’s Top Ten Women in 1996 in 2008, earned the Valued Honors Award from the Fullwood Foundation in 1992, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Blacks in Higher Education in 1991.
