Mr. Lannie has accrued over 40 years of professional experience and began his lengthy career with an education at Vanderbilt University, from which he graduated, magna cum laude, with a Bachelor of Arts in 1974. He later graduated with a JD in 1978 and is certified to practice law in the state of Texas. He embarked on his professional journey as an associate at Johnson & Swanson from 1978 to 1983, before becoming an executive vice president at Bus Lease Inc. from 1983 to 1987. Mr. Lannie then took on the positions of an executive vice president for the GLI Holding Company, as well as of Greyhound Lines Inc. from 1987 to 1991.
From 1991 to 1999, Mr. Lannie served as a vice president, general counsel, and secretary for the Baroid Corporation, senior vice president and general counsel for the Tejas Gas Corporation, and senior vice president and general counsel for Coral Energy. He became the president of the latter company in 1999, and from 2000 to 2003, he held the role of president of the Kinder Morgan Power Company. After entering the Apache Corporation as a vice president, followed by the post of senior vice president, Mr. Lannie began his current position as executive vice president and general counsel in 2009. Additionally, he is a member of the law committee for the American Petroleum Institute.
Notably, Mr. Lannie has received Best Corporate Counsel Awards from the Houston Business Journal for his work in corporate law and has helped grow the Apache Corporation from an international and offshore conventional oil and gas company to a major player in North American sales with multiple multi-billion dollar transactions. In a career full of high-profile, high-intensity legal work, the highlight of Mr. Lannie’s career was successfully out-buying a competing company for BP assets. Driven and focused, he is most grateful to his mentors, D. Stuart, Lanny Martin, Don Kempf and Jay Precourt, who were dependable sources of guidance to him. As a testament to his success, he has been featured in the first edition of Who’s Who in Corporate America, as well as in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in Finance and Business.
