Following the family custom, Mr. Keene was inspired to join the military, as well as become a lawyer. He pursued an education at the United States Military Academy and earned a Bachelor of Science in 1976. In the same year, Mr. Keene joined the United States Army and remained in service as a lieutenant colonel from 1976 to 1995. Within that time, he graduated from Harvard University with a Master of Public Administration in 1984. In 1998, he obtained a JD from New York University and became certified to practice law by the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. Keene began his professional career as an assistant professor and instructor in the United States Military Academy from 1984 to 1987. Afterward, he worked as an assistant army attache for the United States Embassy from 1988 to 1990, a member of the policy planning staff for the United States Department of State form 1990 to 1994, and as a policy analyst for the Office of Science & Technology Policy in The White House from 1994 to 1995. Remaining overseas, Mr. Keene excelled as an associate at Linklaters from 1998 to 1999 and as an associate at Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, from 1999 to 2001.
Between 2002 and 2017, Mr. Keene found success in the positions of an associate at Wollmuth Maher & Deutsch, the vice president and associate general counsel at Goldman, Sachs & Co, the executive vice president and chief compliance officer at MoneyGram International, a court-appointed corporate compliance monitor, a managing director at Kroll Associates, Incorporated, and as a senior ethics officer for the United Nations. Currently, he is an attorney at the Law Office of Lonnie S. Keene. He is an active member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Organization of Veterans’ Advocates, an organization of which Mr. Keene is extremely passionate about. Notably, he has received the Decorated Legion of Merit and was recognized as an Olmsted Scholar by the George and Carol Olmsted Foundation. As a testament to his success, Mr. Keene has been featured in the 36th and 37th editions of Who’s Who in the Midwest, as well as in multiple editions of Who’s Who in the East, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in America, and Who’s Who in the World.
