Jeremiah DeBerry, Partner at Mayer Brown LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in mergers, acquisitions, corporate and transaction law.
Mr. DeBerry was inspired to become a lawyer due to his interest in justice and how the laws apply to all Americans equally. Having been in the legal field for many years, he began to notice the disparities among minorities in the law. Driven to contribute to righting these wrongs, he began his extensive work in the diversity and inclusion field as well. He has been passionate about this area since before he started with Mayer Brown in 2013, working to ensure inclusivity at Cadawalader, Wickersham & Taft LLP before joining his current firm. Earlier in his career, Mr. DeBerry provided his legal services as the CLO/Head of Business Affairs of UV Media, LLC, as the founder of the National Attorneys of Color Network, as a partner with Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP and as an associate and participating of counsel at Paul Hastings.
Mr. DeBerry first followed his academic pursuits at Tufts University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1986. He continued at the University of Virginia Law School to receive a JD in 1991. Furthermore, he received an ETP in corporate governance from Northwestern University in 2005. His ties to academia have remained strong throughout the years and through his current firm, he has supported a number of diverse law student organizations across the country. Mr. Deberry’s work has resulted in numerous accolades, such as receiving the Diversity Leader Award from the Profiles in Diversity Journal with the Nation’s Best Lawyers and being recognized as the Trailblazer for Diversity & Inclusion from the National Law Journal in 2019. He has been ranked among the Nation’s Best Lawyers from LawyersofColor.org and was among the top 68 standard-bearers of the University of Virginia Law School.
