James Carr, Partner at Yuhl Carr LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in trial law.
Mr. Carr was inspired to become a lawyer because his father was a trial lawyer and a defense lawyer in Washington, D.C., and he wanted to follow in his footsteps. In 1972, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Notre Dame. He continued his academic pursuits taking coursework at George Washington Law School, eventually completing his law courses at the University of Notre Dame Law School, earning a JD in 1976. Upon completing his higher education, Mr. Carr was admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland in 1976, the state of California in 1977, the United States District Court for the Central District of California in 1977, and the United States District Court for the Southern District of California in 1986.
Mr. Carr’s greatest career achievement was becoming a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2015. He is most proud of this because, in order to be accepted, the new member has to be vetted. The process is not easy—the members in charge of memberships would talk to judges and the people he went against in trial cases. This was a testament to his career, which he started in 1976 as an associate for Carr, Jordan, et al. He remained there for a year, before moving on to become a partner at Breidenbach, Swainston et al from 1977 to 1984. In 1984, Mr. Carr became a partner at Harney, Wolfe, Shaller & Carr for four years, and then became a partner at Carr & Shaller. From there, he worked in private practice for 10 years, before becoming a partner for Yuhl Carr LLP, where he remains to this day. As a testament to his success, Mr. Carr has also been inducted as a member of AAJ, the Consumer Attorneys of California, and as an advocate of the American Board of Trial Advocates.
