Sylvia Goldschmidt, Founder and Partner at Goldschmidt & Genovese, LLP, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in matrimonial and family law.
Initially interested in serving the world with hopes of saving it, Ms. Goldschmidt decided to first pursue a formal education at the University at Buffalo, earning a Bachelor of Science in psychology and sociology. She further decided to focus on servicing communities, which led her to join AmeriCorp VISTA for a year. Upon her completion of the program, she felt that she could make the most social change as a lawyer. Furthermore, she secured a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Brooklyn Law School and a Master of Laws in Taxation from the New York University School of Law in 1981 and 1982, respectively. She was admitted to practice law in the state of New York the following year.
At the start of her career, Ms. Goldschmidt made partner at Jonathan Goldschmidt in 1992 and worked with the firm until 2002. As of today, she serves as founder and partner Goldschmidt & Genovese, LLP – a firm that specializes in matrimonial and family law matters. This includes divorce, custody matters, and prenuptial agreements. For Ms. Goldschmidt, building her own practice has been her greatest achievement. In addition, she is also proud of garnering the respect of her colleagues and the level of dedication she has put forth for her profession.
Civically, she has sat as co-chair for the Institute for Associates with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2008. In the past, Ms. Goldschmidt contributed as an assistant treasurer with the aforementioned organization. For her accomplishments in the legal field, she has been rated AV-Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. To remain aware of changes in the field, she maintains affiliation with the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the International Academy of Family Lawyers, the New York State Bar, the Westchester Women’s Bar Association, and Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System at the University of Denver. Ms. Goldschmidt would like to be remembered by her peers as someone who was ethical, fair, and knowledgeable.
