Michael B. Weinstein, Of Counsel at Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert & DiNolfo Ltd., has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in criminal law.
Mr. Weinstein became involved in his profession because he studied political science as an undergraduate. Law was something he saw himself gravitating towards. He attributes his success to hard work and to having been lucky enough to be at the right place at the right time. Mr. Weinstein pursued his higher education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he earned a BS in political science in 1970. Continuing in the direction of his major, he then went to the University of Illinois College of Law at Champaign, Ilinois, and earned a JD in 1973. Upon completion of his degree, Mr. Weinstein was admitted to practice law in the state of Illinois, for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, for the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit and for the Supreme Court of the United States.
The highlight of Mr. Weinstein’s career was when he argued two criminal law cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Weinstein began his professional career as an assistant attorney general in 1977 for the Office of the Attorney General of Illinois until 1983. He then became a corporation counsel and city attorney for the city of Aurora from 1984 to 1997. In 1998, Mr. Weinstein took on the role of assistant vice president and claims counsel for the Chicago Title Insurance Company until 2011. At that time, he held the position of associate general counsel for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund for a year and also became a general counsel for the State Universities Retirement System of Illinois until 2015. Since 2015, he has been of counsel for Ottosen Britz Kelly Cooper Gilbert and DiNolfo, Ltd. As a testament to his success, Mr. Weinstein has been inducted as the vice-chair of the Administrative Law Section Council and secretary of the Administrative Law Section of the Illinois State Bar Association. He has also held a membership in numerous esteemed organizations in his field.
