James Kuhn, Judge, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the field of law.
Judge Kuhn became a lawyer because it afforded him a great opportunity to help people and he became a judge for the intellectual challenge it offered. He began his education by earning a Bachelor of Arts from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1968 and while obtaining his degree in law, Judge Kuhn served with the U.S. Army National Guard from 1969 to 1974 and attended the U.S. Army War College. He graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Loyola University, also known as Marquette South Hall, 1973. Judge Hall is admitted to practice law by the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Colorado Bar, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
Between 1973 and 1980, Judge Kuhn operated out of a private practice for two different terms before becoming an assistant district attorney with the 21st Judicial District in Louisiana from 1980 to 1990. He moved up to the position of a judge within the district and held that role until 1995, while also working as a history instructor at Southeastern Louisiana University until 2009. Currently, Judge Kuhn is the judge in the first circuit of Court Appeals in Baton Rouge, Lousiana. Additionally, he is a member of the Louisiana Board of Parole and the Louisiana Board of Pardons.
Outside of his extensive professional pursuits, Judge Kuhn has been an active member of several bar associations, including the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Colorado Bar Association, the New Orleans Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and the Covington Bar Association, among others. He has received a number of accolades and honors for his contributions to the field, including a Jurisprudence Award from Loyola Law School, a Distinguished Service Award from Southeastern Louisiana University, and the Good Citizen Award from the American Legion. Moreover, Judge Kuhn was named Alumnus of Year by Southeastern Louisiana University and was named Man of the Year by the Ancient Order of Hibernians. In additional recognition of his accomplishments, he has been featured in multiple editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Law, Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, and Who’s Who in the World.
