Matthew Towery, Lawyer, Author, and Former State Representative, has been recognized by Marquis Who’s Who Top Lawyers for dedication, achievements, and leadership in the legal profession.
As a child, Mr. Towery wrote a letter to the governor of Georgia, and was invited to meet with him. The governor made Mr. Towery his permanent page, so he grew up in the capital, spending time around politics from a very young age. He naturally gravitated toward politics, and his father expected him to became a lawyer to take over the family business. He attended Cambridge University in England, earning a Master of Philosophy in 1984, and studied law at the Stetson University College of Law, earning a JD, cum laude, in 1987. He was licensed to practice law in the state of Georgia, and started his legal career.
Mr. Towery became a partner at Towery, Thompson, Gulliver, and Bunch, where he remained until 1992, when he became a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. He started as of counsel at Long Aldridge and Norman in 1995, and at Hall Booth Smith PC in 2013, where he works to this day. From 2001 to 2016, Mr. Towery worked as a syndicated columnist for Creators Syndicate, and from 2015 to 2016, he was a political analyst for FOX TV. He credits Newt Gingrich as a mentor, and famously, he wrote a column in 2014 in which he predicted that Donald Trump would be elected president.
As a legal professional, Mr. Towery maintains memberships to a variety of organizations, including the Georgia Bar Association, Atlanta Bar Association, Oxford-Cambridge Club, and the Friends of Newt Gingrich. He was the Republican nominee for lieutenant governor of Georgia in 1990, and was named National Freshman Legislator of the Year by the National Republican Party in 1993. In 2016, Mr. Towery was named to the Stetson University College of Law Hall of Fame.
Early in his career, Mr. Towery worked as a special assistant and speechwriter to Mack F. Mattingly during his term as the senator of Georgia, and has continued his political writing ever since. He authored “Power in the South” in 1984, “Powerchicks: How Women Will Dominate America” in 1998, “Paranoid Nation” in 2009, and “Newsvesting” in 2015. He advises aspiring lawyers to look far into the future, be flexible, and to develop interpersonal skills as much as possible. He believes that a successful lawyer can take the work of his associates and use it persuasively. As a testament to his stature, experience, and success, Mr. Towery was featured in the 22nd edition of Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, as well as the 49th and 50th editions of Who’s Who in America.
